Have an Amazing Holiday

Stay hydrated. The combination of booze and sun can deplete our water stocks faster than we expect, so to avoid feeling groggy and run down during your holiday, act accordingly. Don’t forget the sun cream or lotion either.

Hiring mopeds is a very dangerous move. With so many stories about quad and moped-based fatalities involving tourists in Crete, it’s better to stick to cars if you do have to hire a vehicle at all. Drink-driving is a risk not worth taking.

Don’t take your passport out with you, especially on a night out. Arranging an emergency passport can be not only costly but incredibly time-consuming, taking a huge chunk of your holiday and potentially your cash away from you. If you need ID, use an alternative form.

Don’t drink more than you can handle. Although holiday drinking sessions can be lengthy, it’s best to pace yourself and take long breaks. In fact, it’s a good idea to be as sensible as you hopefully would at home. Alcohol can lead us to accidents and even legal trouble, so if you don’t wish to spend a night in a Greek prison or hospital, take care. Considering taking drugs? Think carefully before doing so for legal and safety reasons. There’s always a chance that you won’t be taking what you think you are and you could again find yourself in trouble with the law.

Don’t be naïve when it comes to crime. Criminals can come in many forms, and pickpocketing children can be more active than you might expect. Remember to keep your wits about you, especially if you’ll be carrying expensive items around. Don’t leave drinks unattended as there’s always a chance something might be slipped into them whilst you’re not looking. Never walk home alone either.

It might seem that holidays and casual sex go hand-in-hand, but if you must be intimate with a stranger at least use protection to avoid a nasty surprise later.

Worried about over-spending? Running out of cash halfway through your holiday is extremely depressing and if you don’t have anything left you might as well home. Allocate yourself a daily fund and stick to it. You may wish to ask a sensible friend to oversee your budget if you think you’ll be tempted to take things too far. Don’t carry a large sum of cash around with you.
